Chartered Legal Executive, Head of Family Department
BackgroundSonja qualified as a fellow of the chartered institute of legal Executives in 2004. Initially focusing her career in all aspects of family work she has now developed extensive expertise in Public Law Children Act proceedings. She represents parents, grandparents and extended family members in all aspects of Local Authority involvement up to and including representation in court.
Sonja is now Head of the Family Department for Gurney Harden and supervises a number of staff members. Sonja has worked at our Worthing office for the last 17years and has recently had the benefit of becoming a member of the Gurney Harden team.
Sonja has an extensive knowledge of Care proceedings and social services involvement assisting vulnerable client in very serious matters where allegations have been made against the parents including non-accidental injuries, neglect, alcohol and drug misuse and abuse.
Recent Cases Include
- 2018 Representation of a parent in a non-accidental injury case. At Fact finding mother exonerated from causing injuries and child returned to parent’s care.
- 2018 Representation of a mother with severe learning disabilities where placement was sought from mother in mother and baby placement leading to mother being able to care for her child in the community.
- 2018 Representation of a grandparent where the parents were accused of neglect of the children. Children ultimately placed with grandmother and children enjoying contact with parents.
